SIDNEY — Robert Charles Rowe, 72, of Sidney, passed away Friday, Nov. 25, 2016, at 11:50 p.m. at Sidney Care Center. He was born on July 4, 1944, in Fonde, Kentucky, the son of Leatha (McKinney) Rowe of LaFollette, Tennessee, and the late Rev. Glenn Rowe.
On April 20, 1968, Robert married Lana Lambdin who survives along with their two children, Brian C. Rowe of Fairfield, and Betsy D. Rowe of Sidney, and three sisters, Clara Edwards of LaFollette, Tennessee, Alma (Verlin) Allen and Cathy (Donald) Strunk both of Sidney. He was preceded in death by one brother, Ronnie Rowe, and brother-in-law, Randall Edwards.
Robert belonged to the Sidney VFW, was a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity, and helped serve at the annual Community Christmas Dinner. He was a 48 year member of Northtowne Church of God. He retired as a machinist from Honda of America in Anna in June 2004. Robert was a true man of God who loved serving Jesus and had a great love for his family. He enjoyed fishing, Sidney football games, and going to flea markets. He was an avid reader and was very knowledgeable on the Civil War through Vietnam Era. Robert served in the U.S. Army, 1st Cavalry Division from 1965-1967. During his service in Vietnam, Robert distinguished himself by meritorious achievement, while participating in sustained aerial flight, in support of combat ground forces of the Republic of Vietnam from December 1965 to September 1966. During this time he actively participated in more than 25 aerial missions over hostile territory in support of counterinsurgency operations. In all of these missions he displayed the highest order of air discipline and acted in accordance with the best traditions of the service.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. at Northtowne Church of God, 2008 Wapakoneta Ave., Sidney, with Rev. Tim Bartee officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at Graceland Cemetery in Sidney. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. at the church with American Legion Post 217 conducting a service at 7:45 p.m. Arrangements are in the care of Cromes-Edwards Funeral Home.
