Dr. Robert S. DonohoZANESVILLE: Dr. Robert S. Donoho passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, November 7, 2012. He was born on September 25, 1928 in Baltimore, Maryland to Murray T. Donoho, II and Virginia Smith Donoho.Dr. Donoho graduated from Gilman School (1946) in Baltimore, Maryland and from Williams College, (1950) with Honors, in Williamstown, Massachusetts. He received his Doctorate of Medicine from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine (1954) in Baltimore, Maryland.While at Williams College, Dr. Donoho was a member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity, played varsity lacrosse and was named "All New England" in 1949.Dr. Donoho completed his internship and residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital and University of Maryland Hospital respectively and went on to specialize in general surgery. He served active duty as a medical officer in the Air Force, stationed in France, and upon the completion of his tour and a stint in the Air Force reserves, retired as a Major.Dr. Donoho moved his growing family to Zanesville in 1962 and began his practice with Doctors, Fred Phillips and Donald Urban. He served as President and Chief of Medical Staff of Bethesda Hospital and Good Samaritan Hospital. He was President of the Muskingum County Academy of Medicine and served on the board of the Good Samaritan Foundation.Dr. Donoho was a member of the Bachelors Cotillion of Baltimore, Maryland, the Zanesville Country Club and the Assembly Club.Upon moving to the Midwest, Dr. Donoho became an avid sports fan and die hard "Buckeye," following The
Ohio State University sports teams with great enthusiasm. Throughout his life he enjoyed spending time with his family; water skiing, snow skiing, gardening and at the family farm in Chandlersville, Ohio.Dr. Donoho was committed to his patients and cared deeply for their well being. It gave him great joy to serve the Zanesville community.Dr. Donoho is survived by his wife of 56 years, Jane Sowell, and his children; Lee also of Zanesville, Robert Jr. (Sharon) of Noblesville, Indiana, Winfield (Tod Zuscin) of Washington, DC and Virginia (Robert Goodrich) of Palm Springs, California and his Grandchildren; Robby and Brittany Donoho, and Rutger Zuscin.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Murray T. Donoho III.A memorial service will be held in honor of Dr. Donoho on Sunday, November 18th at 4:00 pm at St. James Episcopal Church, (155 N 6th St., downtown Zanesville) with The Rev. Robert Willmann officiating. The family will begin receiving guests at 3:00 pm at the church.In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations be made to the Falls Township Volunteer Fire Department, (P.O.
