LAGRANGE — Robert J. Spice, 95, passed away Saturday, June 11, 2016 at Sandalwood Care Facility in Wheat Ridge, Colorado. While living most of his lifetime in LaGrange and Steuben counties, he has lived the last few years with his daughter, Jean, in Laguna Niguel, California, and son, John, in Golden, Colorado. Bob retired from Texaco in 1981. He was a manager of the service area on the Indiana Toll Road and the Detroit Metro Airport. Mr. Spice was a WWII veteran serving at the Ft. Riley Hospital in Springfield, Missouri. He was a member of the American Legion, a life member of the Masonic Lodge, and a former member of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church in LaGrange, Indiana. Mr. Spice was born on July 21, 1920, in South Milford, Indiana, to the late Harry E. Spice and Jesse Ruth (Hammond) Spice. On Dec. 27, 1941, in Leesburg, Indiana, he married Barbara Rose Bowerman. She preceded him in death on Nov. 16, 2009. Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Francis Richter of Ashley, Indiana, and Jean and Chuck Harrell of Laguna Niguel, California; a son and daughter-in-law, John K. and Cynthia Spice of Golden, Colorado; seven grandchildren and their spouses; and seven great-grandchildren. His sister, Mildred Ruth (Spice) Treesh, also preceded Robert in death. A graveside service at Flint Cemetery in Flint, Indiana, will be held in the fall. Memorials may be made to or the Alzheimer's Foundation of America. Frurip-May Funeral Home in LaGrange is handling the arrangements.
