Robert Virgil "Virg" BennettZANESVILLE: Robert Virgil "Virg" Bennett, 75 of Zanesville died at 10:58 am Sunday, July 20, 2014 at his residence, surrounded by his family, following complications from surgery & lung cancer. Virg was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.He was born on June 2, 1939 in Zanesville, Ohio the son of the late Robert A. and Alice Kirk Bennett.Virg was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He retired as an electrician from Rockwell /Meritor, where he served as the President of IBEW Local Union 1206 for over 25 years. A lifelong avid golfer, he was a member of the Beer Box Golf League at Jaycees and a member of the ORF Wednesday morning golf league in Newark. Virg ran the annual Rockwell league for years and also ran a yearly trip of golfing friends to Myrtle Beach.He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Shirley A. (Suttle) Bennett of the home, whom he married July 5, 1958; his children include Rod (Jenny) Bennett of Sunbury, Doug (Bobbi) Bennett of Zanesville and Stacey (Mike) Gottwalt of West Lafayette; grandchildren include Zakary (Amy) Bennett of Zanesville, Justin (Erin) Bennett of Liberty Township, Tara Bennett of Columbus, Emily Bennett of Zanesville and Grace Gottwalt of West Lafayette; great grandchildren are Timothy Richardson of Zanesville and Leo Bennett of Liberty Township. In addition, he is survived by a brother Dan (Marlene) Bennett of Zanesville and a sister Rita Bennett of Columbus. Visitation will be held from 2-4pm & 6-8pm Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at the Bryan & Snider Funeral Home, 2318 Maple Ave. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at the St. Nicholas Catholic Church with Fr. Peter Fegan O.P. as celebrant. Burial will conclude at the Mt. Olive Cemetery on East Pike.The Bryan & Snider Funeral Home, 2318 Maple Ave., Zanesville is in charge of the arrangements.
