Robert William CooneySalt Lake City, UTRobert William Cooney, 90, of Salt Lake City, UT, passed away on Friday, November 25, 2016 from complications of heart disease. Robert (Bob) is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Patricia Snow Cooney and his two daughters, Karen (Judson) Thuerk and Kathleen (Gary Faerber) Cooney. Bob has four grandchildren, Lindsay Maus, Kristen Thuerk, Megan Faerber and Timothy Faerber. Bob was born on May 11, 1926 in Ventura, CA to the late Robert Stuart Cooney and Margaret Emstead Cooney. He graduated from Ventura High School, received his Bachelor's degree from Oregon State University and his Masters of Business Administration from the University of Santa Clara. Bob was a veteran of the Navy where he served as an electronics specialist during
WWII. After discharge from the Navy, he worked for General Electric (GE) in their engineering test program. Bob and Pat especially enjoyed this time as they lived in a number of locations throughout the East and Midwest. They eventually settled in San Jose, CA where their children were born. In 1960, the family moved to Schenectady, NY where Bob held many positions with GE. The family moved to Wilton, CT in 1974 when a promotion took Bob to GE Corporate Headquarters and he retired in 1983. At that time he was recruited to Bethlehem Steel as their first Vice President of Marketing, where he stayed until he retired for a final time in 1989. Bob and Pat enjoyed many years of retirement in Williamsburg, VA and Ann Arbor, MI, before moving to Salt Lake City, UT with their daughter in 2016. They loved playing tennis, golfing and hosting their children for summer vacations on the Outer Banks (NC). Bob also loved gardening and traveling with his family.Memorial Services will be held at a later date.
