Robert Wm. Meyer, 77, of Readlyn, died on Thursday, March 2, 2017, at Tripoli Nursing and Rehab in Tripoli. Bob was born on July 20, 1939 in Sumner, Iowa, the son of Willie and Luella (Zander) Meyer. He was baptized on July 27, 1939, and confirmed on April 11, 1954, both at St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Sumner. He attended school in Sumner and graduated from Sumner High School in 1957. He served in the Iowa National Guard for nine years. Bob was united in marriage to Barbara Jean Thoms on Aug. 28, 1960, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Klinger. He worked at Tripoli Produce, John Deere Tractor Works and also farmed. Bob worked for 17 years for Nachurs Liquid Fertilizer Co. as a district manager and was later promoted to Area Supervisor. He was owner and operator of Meyer Welding and Repair and later Quality Distributors Inc., both in Readlyn, retiring in 2004.Bob served on the Readlyn Fire Department from 1970-92; and the Readlyn City Council from 1972-75. He enjoyed golfing, hunting and also fishing at their cabin at Harpers Ferry.Bob is survived by his wife, Barbara, of Readlyn; a son, Brian (Brenda) Meyer, of Readlyn; a daughter, Debra (Randy) Magee, of Lodi, Wis.; and a son, Terry (Trina) Meyer, of Fairfax Station, Va.; his grandchildren, Breanne (Derek) Fourtner, Kesley (Melissa) Magee, Blaine (Jamsie) Magee, Karsten Meyer, Abrah Meyer, Jaclyn Meyer, and Christopher Meyer; a great-grandson, Gage Fourtner; his brothers and sisters, Alice (Don) Soldwisch, of Readlyn; James (Kathy) Meyer, of Denver; Darold (Barbara) Meyer, of Whitewright, Texas; LaVera Buchholz, of Tripoli; Jeanette (Arlen) Koelling, of Sumner; Zelda (Robert) Platte, of Denver; Iva Clinton, of Norway; Ruth (Ron) Quigley, of Tripoli; Dora (Tom) Smith, of New Hampton; Margaret Fox, of Oelwein; Darlene (Chip) Schwickerath, of New Hampton; Donna (Rick) Throndson, of New Hampton; Joel (Nancy) Meyer, of Sumner; Marjory Meyer, of Oelwein; a sister-in-law, Lorna Kohlman, of St. Charles, Mo.; and many nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers-in-law, Duane Buchholz, Charlie Clinton, Dale Fox, Roger Kohlman, Clarence Dittmer and Orville Thoms; and a sister-in-law, Lodyce Dittmer.Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, March 6, 2017, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Readlyn with the Rev. Matthew Moss officiating. Burial will be held in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, Readlyn. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 3-7 p.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Readlyn and also one hour prior to services on Monday at the church.
