His Life long passion as a fishermen

Longtime local resident Rodney Monk, born on February 8th, 1955, bid farewell to this colorful world on August 21st, 2023. He resided in the town of Kelso, Washington, where he brightened the lives of all those around him.

As the son of Audie Earl Monk and Evelyn Mildred (West) Monk, Rodney carried their legacy of kindness and laughter. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Ronald Ray Monk and his sister, Susan Diane(Monk) Hurley. Rodney had one remarkable child, Toby Lee Monk, who continued to carry the torch of his father's spirit. Other survivors include a sister, Audrey (Monk) Martin of Lynnwood, Wa; a niece, Cindy Nielsen of Vancouver, Wa. and other numerous nieces and nephews and cousins.

Rodney's journey commenced at Kelso High School, where he diligently pursued knowledge, forming lifelong friendships that were cherished till the very end. In 1974, he triumphantly donned his graduation cap, exiting the halls of high school and step-danced into the open arms of Arizona Automotive Institute.

In the realm of work, Rodney dedicated his skills and passion at Ross-Simmons Lumber mill in his early years of labor, then later on his changing of career paths led him to Honest John's Kelso Auto & Marine where he earned his OMC certification as an outboard motor technician for many years. His last occupation as a wood/log scalier at RSG Forest Products, where his expertise shone like the radiant sun on a clear summer's day until the last day to his retirement. His colleagues looked up to him, not only for his expertise but also for his sunny disposition and contagious smile that could really cut through the gloomiest of Mondays.

Unfortunately, the curtain closed on Rodney's act far too soon due to lung cancer, reminding us of life's bittersweet fragility. In the face of adversity, though, he fought bravely, demonstrating an unwavering spirit that both inspired and touched the hearts of all those who knew him. His courage was a beacon of hope, a testament to the remarkable person he truly was.

Rest in peace, Rodney Monk. May your laughter echo through the heavens, and your memories bring warmth to the hearts of those left behind. The sunshine of your soul will forever be cherished and your remarkable spirit will live on through the stories told.

You can to the family or in memory of Rodney Monk.
