Roger AlmendingerRoger L. Almendinger, 59 of Rapid City, SD, passed away on Saturday, January 21, 2017, at Select Specialty Hospital, Sioux Falls, SD.Roger Lynn Almendinger, son of Arnold and Dorothy (Collins) Almendinger, was born on February 17, 1957, in Winner, SD. He attended St Mary's Catholic School and graduated from Winner High School in 1975. After graduating, Roger joined the United States Air Force. He completed technical training at Sheppard AFB, Texas and his basic training at Lackland AFB in Texas before being assigned to Ramstein AFB in Germany, where he was a Jet Engine Mechanic. He was honorably discharged in 1979. After returning to the United States, Roger worked as a Machine Operator at American Western for 10 years. He worked various other mechanical positions in Yankton, Madison, and Salem, SD, before becoming disabled. His last place of residence was Rapid City, SD.Roger loved the outdoors. His very best times were the annual pheasant hunts with his family and friends in Winner. Not many knew of his artistic ability and that he was a history buff. He was a big animal lover and cherished time spent with his best pal; his dog, Lucy. Even though times could be tough for Roger, he was a guy with a big heart. He was a humble and loyal friend.Grateful for having shared his life are his brothers Byran Almendinger, Sioux City, IA, Randy Almendinger and his wife Nancy, Sioux Falls, SD; sisters Cathy Phillips and her husband Joe, Sioux Falls, SD, Susan Condon, Sioux Falls, SD, Mary Farley and her husband Roger, Winner, SD; several nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends.Roger was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother James.Visitation with the family present will be from 5 to 6:30 pm with a rosary at 6:30 pm on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at Miller West Funeral Chapel, 6200 West 41st Street. A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, January 25, 2017, at St. Michael Catholic Church. www.millerfh.com
