Oleson, Roger C.Roger C. Oleson, age 75, of Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin, passed away on Monday, June 12, 2017 at his residence.Funeral services for Roger will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday June 19, 2017 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Kellner, WI. Pastor Kevin Ader will officiate the service. The family will greet relatives and friends on Monday morning at the church from 9:00 - 11:00 AM. Burial will take place at a later date at St. John's Parish Cemetery. Military rites will be provided by the American Legion Post #9 of Wisconsin Rapids. Roger was born on February 24, 1942 in Nekoosa, Wisconsin to the late Francis and Agnes (Konopacki) Oleson. Roger left high school to join the military and entered into the U.S. Army on February 5, 1964. While in the Army, Roger was stationed at Fort Benning in Georgia and was a part of the truck division where he prepared vehicles to be shipped to Vietnam. In addition to his duties with the Army, Roger was able to attain his GED. After his honorable discharge from the Army on February 4, 1966, Roger went on to marry Doris Mae Saeger on July 30, 1966 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Kellner, WI. He worked for the Wisconsin Rapids Water and Light Commission for over 33 years, retiring as a supervisor in March of 2000. Roger was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and snowmobiling with family and friends. Roger was a member of the Trackers Archery Club and as a proud veteran he was a member of the American Legion Post #9 in Wisconsin Rapids. He loved to spend time with his family and for over 30 years, Doris and Roger maintained a trailer in the Vista Royal area by Bancroft and in earlier years liked to gather their family together for picnics at Fish Lake. Roger is survived by his wife Doris, son Jeff (Laurie) Oleson of Wisconsin Rapids, granddaughter Kayley Oleson of Wisconsin Rapids; brothers Duane (Ann) Oleson and Gene (Pat) Oleson; sisters Marcia (James) Coller and Janet Erickson; brother-in-law Delbert Wendt. Roger is further survived by many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Ronnie Oleson, sister Lauraine Wendt, brother-in-law "Doc" Erickson and nephews Scott Phillip, Darell Oleson, Michael James Oleson and Phillip Clark who was killed in action in 1966 in Vietnam. Memorials may be designated to the American Disabled Veterans or to American Legion Post #9 in Wisconsin Rapids.
