Roger Davis ChesleyVero Beach, FLRoger Davis Chesley, a long-time resident of Vero Beach, passed away peacefully on October 21, 2017 at Indian River Memorial Hospital after a courageous battle with lung cancer.He was born on June 23, 1943 to George and Mary Alma Chesley in New Britain, Connecticut.Roger enjoyed sports and was honored to have earned his Eagle Scout from the Boy Scouts of America.Roger graduated from the Fryeburg Academy in Fryeburg, Maine in 1961 and The Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania magna cum laude with a degree in finance and economics in 1965. While at Penn, Roger was President of the Phi Kappa Sigma Fraternity, a member of the Wharton Advisory Board, the Interfraternity Council and the Friars Senior Society,and he was elected to the Beta Gamma Sigma Honorary Society. He then graduated from Harvard Law School magna cum laude in 1968, where he was the recipient of the Williston Legal Writing Award. Upon graduation, Roger joined Sullivan & Cromwell, LLP, where he was a member of the team that negotiated the Alaskan Pipeline. Roger was a proud member of the New York State Bar Association and the American Bar Association. He later became Vice President and General Counsel of Amstar Corporation.The Chesley family previously lived in Short Hills, New Jersey, where Roger was a Board of Education Member for Millburn Township, Treasurer of Christ Church, and a member of the Noe Pond Club and Canoe Brook Country Club. They later moved to Darien, Connecticut, where Roger enjoyed golf at The Country Club of Darien and was a member of the Tokeneke Club.Roger is survived by Joan, his loving and devoted wife of 49 years, a daughter Carol Chesley Renfrow and her husband Joshua Renfrow of Mendon, Vermont, a son Robert Chesley, his wife Amanda, and three beloved granddaughters, Elena, Katherine, and Claire, of Rye, New York, a daughter Susan Chesley of Arlington, Virginia, a brother George Chesley and his wife Joy of Bend, Oregon, a nephew Shawn Chesley, his wife Jenny and their daughters Vivian and Maren, and a niece Megan Chesley.Roger was devoted to his family and friends, and was an avid Boston Red Sox and New York Giants fan. A private family service will be held in New London, New Hampshire, where the family spent many enjoyable summer vacations.In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Red Sox Jimmy Fund to support cancer research, the , the Grand Harbor Outreach Program, or to a charity of your choosing.Arrangements are under the direction of Strunk Funeral Home, Vero Beach.
