Mr. Roger Sancartier, age 81 years, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at Hogarth Riverview Manor.Roger was born on March 15, 1935 in Kirkland Lake, Ontario. He began his mining career in Elliott Lake, and in 1970, he moved to Thunder Bay where he continued his career as a Common Core Trainer with Mattabi Mines in Ignace until his retirement in 1989. Roger was a very kind and generous soul who would always lend a helping hand with a smile on his face. In his retirement, Roger enjoyed swimming, bowling, camping and home renovations. Roger and Sharon spent many winter months in Florida while cheering on his beloved Montreal Canadiens from the south. Family was very important to him. His pride and joy were his grandsons Theo and Alex. They brought him tremendous joy whether watching one of their sporting games or just spending time together. Roger was a grateful friend of Bill W. for many years. Roger is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Sharon; son Jack (Maria); beloved grandsons Theo and Alex, whom brought great joy into his life; brother Real (Celine), sister in-law Patsy; sister in-law Georgette and numerous nieces and nephews.He was predeceased by his parents, Palma and Irene and brothers Ronald and Cleo, and niece Susan Howald. Funeral services for the late Mr. Roger Sancartier will be held on Friday, December 16, 2016 with family and friends gathering in St. Agnes Roman Catholic Church for the Funeral Mass at 12:10pm celebrated by Fr. Jerin Louis. Interment will follow in Mountainview Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday evening after 6:00pm in the WESTFORT CHAPEL, 420 West Gore Street at James with the Vigil Prayers offered at 7:00pm.Should friends so desire, donations in memory of Roger may be made to the Alzheimer Society or a charity of your choice.
