Basten, RonRon Basten, 76, Green Bay, passed away suddenly on Sunday, December 11, 2016. He was born on October 13, 1940, in New Franken to the late Carl and Pearl (Greiling) Basten. Ron graduated from Green Bay East High School in 1958. He was employed as a florist briefly after graduation. As a young adult, Ron discovered a passion for ice skating. As his talents developed he gained some renown for skating for "Holiday on Ice" as well as other entertainment and competition events. He later settled in Southfield, MI, where he took a position as the Director of Special Events for the Parks and Recreation Department. During his time in the position, he dedicated 25 years to directing, staging, and choreographing his own event idea "Ice Company". Ron returned to Green Bay in October of 2014, due to an exhausting battle with Lewy Body Dementia, to be with his family. Aside from his passion for skating, Ron also enjoyed traveling, theatre, and everything Christmas.Ron will be sadly missed by five siblings, Gale (Carole) Basten, Barry (Nancy) Basten, Harlan (Carol) Basten, Sandy Tursky, June (Roger) Gilsoul, as well as many nieces, nephews, family and friends.In addition to his parents, Ron was preceded in death by, a brother-in-law, Jim Tursky, and his beloved cat, Bruce.Visitation will be at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 2040 Hillside Dr., from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass on Thursday, December 15, 2016.
