Ronald Davis
June 21, 1934 - May 30, 2023
Ronald Davis died in the presence of loved ones on May 30, 2023 at the age of 88. Ron was born in San Francisco and was proud to grow up in “the city” with his parents David Davis and Ruth Mittleman who both passed away early in his life. His Aunt Rena and Uncle Milton “Dear” Cohen lovingly raised him like he was their own son which to Ron’s benefit included gaining a wonderful cousin as a little brother in Herman Cohen.
After graduating from San Francisco’s Lincoln High Ron entered the US Army. Upon returning from his service, Ron pursued a degree in education and later earned an administrative credential from San Francisco State University. He started teaching in La Honda and then in Marin County.
Ron’s life really took an important turn when he met his wife Joan Naughton Davis in San Francisco whom he was married to for 54 years. Shortly after marrying they moved to Marin County where they eventually settled in Mill Valley to raise their two boys Trevor and Graham. It was evident to all who knew them that they were as much best friends as they were partners.
Ron spent most of his career teaching in the Mill Valley School District, first as a 5th-grade teacher and then as Principal of Old Mill School. He often spoke of the Old Mill students that left a lasting impression on his life. He loved connecting with students, their families, and his colleagues.
Ron as a friend was charming, funny, and kind. Like his wife Joan, he was the ultimate host. He could make anyone feel comfortable, welcome, and accepted.
His many friends, many dating back to his elementary and high school years, and his various clubs (SIRS, Lincoln Alumni, Marin Retired Teachers, among others) will miss him dearly. He loved socializing, as evident from his weekly coffee group and various lunches.
Ron was preceded in death by his wife Joan Naughton Davis who passed away in 2020. Ron leaves behind his sons Trevor (Susan) and Graham (Margaret Ann), his grandchildren Owen, Quinn, Finn, and Desi, and his brother Herman (Carmen) Cohen and his extended family. They will never forget what a special person Ron was. He will always be dearly loved.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to By the Bay Health (formerly Hospice By the Bay) who were very helpful to the family when his wife Joan died. By the Bay Health, 17 Sir Francis Drake Blvd, Larkspur, CA 94939. www.hospicebythebay.com.

I thought I’d look up Mr. Davis today, I’m sorry to see he has passed, condolences to his family. Mr. Davis was my 4th and 5th grade teacher and made a great impression on me. Spending the night on the CA Thayer, betting us on the World Series (he lost and the class walked to Baskin Robbins for our pay off), reading, the parachute, doing fractions, writing a sentence a hundred times in cursive as a punishment, prepping for the bicentennial, so many fond memories. To this day I still write in cursive because he said it was more efficient (it’s not taught anymore, it’s as though I write in code) and I can do fractions better than anyone I know. I am certain my classmates remember fondly as well, he was a marvelous teacher ❤️
Anthea Stacke & Anne Forst planted 3 trees for Ronald.
