Ronald B. "Ron" ReidHattiesburg, MSRonald B. "Ron" Reid, 64, of Hattiesburg, passed away Monday the 21st of November, 2016 at his home after a long fight with cancer.Ron was born on May 6th, 1952 in Mildenhall, England while his father, Willie V. Reid, Sr., was stationed there with the
US Air Force. His mother is Janie Sanford Reid. Both parents are from Seminary, MS. Ron's foster father and mother are the late Harold and Louise Cubley of Hattiesburg.Ron married Jane Tatum March 19th, 2000 at Main Street United Methodist Church in Hattiesburg.Ron's early childhood included considerable travel, as his Father's military career path took them to different parts of the world; England, Maine, Mississippi, Texas, Guam, back to Maine, finally retiring to Hattiesburg in 1962.After graduating from Hattiesburg High School, Ron joined the US Air Force in December of 1971 with service in Texas, Thailand, Wyoming, Arkansas and the Azores. Ron was a K-9 dog handler with the Air Police. He left active duty in June of 1976, and he continued his military career with service in the Mississippi Air National Guard from April of 1986 to November of 2008, retiring at the rank of Senior Master Sergeant.Upon completing his active duty tour in the Air Force, Ron returned to Hattiesburg and entered the University of Southern Mississippi. He received his Bachelor's degree in criminal justice and joined the Hattiesburg Police Department in 1981. Ron continued his service to the community for the next 22 years and retired in 2003 at the rank of Captain. Ron was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church, and was a leader of Celebrate Recovery, a Christ-centered study for those recovering from various types of addiction.Ron is survived by his wife Jane Tatum Reid of Hattiesburg and step son Forest Tatum of Hattiesburg. He is also survived by his natural brother Willie V. "Bill" Reid, Jr. of Bel Air, MD and 3 foster brothers, James R. "Bob" Cubley of Columbia, MS, Clellan W. Cubley of Hattiesburg, MS and Nelson B. Cubley of Hattiesburg, MS, and several cousins, nieces and nephews.Ron is predeceased by his parents Willie and Janie Reid, foster parents Harold and Louise Cubley, and foster brother William "Bill" Cubley. Visitation will be Saturday, the 10th of December, from 3-5 PM at Main Street United Methodist Church, 712 Main Street, Hattiesburg, MS 39401. Services will be conducted at 5:00 PM by retired pastor Vicki Johnson of Texas.Memorials may be made to The Atlanta , 1552 Shoup Court, Decatur, GA 30033.
