Dr. Ronald Wayne Miller passed away on July 11, 2016 surrounded by his family. He was born on December 19, 1937. Ron was a football and track star in high school. He was recruited by UCLA and Oregon State to play football, choosing Oregon State for Coach Tommy Prothro. He played for OSU from 1958 - 1961. He was drafted during college and allowed to finish dental school before serving in Vietnam. He served as a medic on the front lines. After his tour in Vietnam he finished his tour in Italy, serving as a dentist in the Army. He moved back to Portland, OR and practiced dentistry for a short time before moving to Eugene to practice with Dr. Chambers. He practiced in Eugene for 25 years. In 1973 Ron was introduced to the "love of his life", Patricia Darlene Huckins. They dated for 17 years and finally married in a secret elopement in Hawaii on February 24, 1989. Ron and Patricia Darlene lived a very full and active life together. They snow skied, bicycled, played tennis, golf and traveled extensively to other countries, mostly Europe. Ron's favorite spot in the world was Italy. Ron loved our Mom dearly, and always said, up to his death, "She is the best thing that ever happened to me". Ron gave his children and grandchildren wise council, and his sense of humor was hysterical. There are many fond memories of family time and holidays. Ron will be greatly missed. There is a hole that can never be replaced. Ron is survived by his wife, Patricia Darlene Miller, daughter Valorie (Ric) May; son Jeff (Jennifer) Huckins; son Kelly Miller; son Kirk (Jocelyn) Miller; grandchildren: Robert May, Natalie May, Charlie Huckins, Elyse (Trevor) Fromm, Nathanial Miller, Hayden Miller; great-grandsons: Kaiden May, Lincoln Fromm with whom Ron proudly named before his passing. A celebration is being planned for a later date.
