Rose Hamstra, 97, of DeMotte, passed away Sunday, Dec. 20, 2015, at the Oak Grove Christian Retirement Village of DeMotte. Rose was born on Oct. 1, 1918, the daughter of John and Anna (Peterson) Walstra.Rose graduated from Fair Oaks High School. On Nov. 10, 1939, in DeMotte, she married Gerben Hamstra, who passed away in 1999. She helped take care of the farm and was a loving homemaker. Rose was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church in DeMotte, and was a very active member of her church, as the church librarian, and attending many different bible studies. Rose was a very loving and giving, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to so many. She truly cared for people and her community.Rose leaves behind daughters, Anna Mae (John) Heerema of DeMotte, Eileen (Jim) Toppen of DeMotte; sons, Rev. Albert (Mindy) Hamstra of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Rev. Richard (Sue) Hamstra, of Grand Haven, Michigan; son-in-law, Ken (Judy) Ooms of Lansing, Illinois; sister-in-law Malene Walstra; 19 grandchildren, 35 great-frandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gerben; daughter, Norma Ooms, and five siblings, Peter Walstra, Art Walstra, Garrett Walstra, Clarence Walsta and Francis VanKley.Friends may call on Tuesday, Dec. 22, from 2 to 8 p.m. at Jackson Funeral Service, DeMotte. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 23, at 10 a.m., at the Holland Cemetery in DeMotte, with Pastor Laryn Zoerhof officiating. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.Memorial Contributions may be made to the charity of donor's choice.
