OTTAWA — Rosemary E. Kuhlman, 99, of Ottawa, passed away 8:25 p.m. on Sunday, December 4, 2016 at Putnam Heritage Assisted Living. She was born on September 2, 1917 in New Cleveland, Ohio to the late Henry and Louise (Niese) Wischmeyer. On May 4, 1938 she married Leonard Kuhlman who preceded her in death on July 16, 1973.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her sisters: Emma (Robert) Goedde and Eleanor Wischmeyer.
Rosemary lived on the family farm in the house where she was born for most of her life. She was a homemaker and assisted her husband with the farm, continuing to manage its operations for 43 years after his death. On May 5, 2016 her farm was designated an Ohio Sesquicentennial Farm, commemorating ownership in the same family for 150 years or more.
Rosemary was a life long member of New Cleveland Holy Family Catholic Church. Her grandfather, Ferdinand Wischmeyer, was one of the German pioneers who founded the parish in 1859. Her father was a councilman who served on the building committee for the existing brick church that was dedicated in 1916. Over the years Rosemary was active in various aspects of parish life including the Altar Rosary Society and parish socials. During World War II, she wrote New Cleveland news and obituaries for the Catholic Chronicle.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 10, 2016 at New Cleveland Holy Family Catholic Church officiated by Fr. Stephen Schroeder. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. Burial will take place in the church cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be given to Holy Family Catholic Church.
