ROY MATTHEWS III Roy Emerson Matthews III, 63, of Cedar Park, Texas, passed away Monday, July 31, 2017. Roy was born on March 25, 1954 in Denver, Colorado to Roy Jr. and Lois Matthews. He graduated from Shadle Park High School in Spokane in 1972, Washington State University with a Bachelors in Science in Electrical Engineering in 1976 and a Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering in 1986. He also held a Nuclear Power Plant Operator License and was a member of IEEE and Tau Beta Pi Honor Society. Roy was employed as the Director of Plant Operations Engineering at Lower Colorado River Authority at the time of his passing. Roy began his long engineering career as an intern with Washington Water Power/Avista, followed by employment with Westinghouse and Bechtel, before moving on to engineering in the computer chip industry, and LCRA. Roy and his family attended Central United Protestant and Bethel Baptist Church before moving on to Texas. He was a dedicated member of Hill Country Bible Church, where he worked with the facilities and offering teams. An avid fan of boating, camping, snow skiing, cars, and smoking meat, Roy was always finding something new to tinker with. He was best known for his sense of humor and his love of pulling pranks on his family and friends. Roy was a life-long, die-hard Cougar, much to the consternation of his mother in-law-and two brothers-in-law. Roy is survived by his wife Jayne of 36 years, son Roy Matthews IV, son Bryan (Ann) Matthews, and sister Christine (Herb) Sargo. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy Jr. and Lois Matthews. Roy was a devoted husband, loving father, and loyal friend to all.
