Roy P. Longmire Roy P. Longmire passed away on August 16, 2017 at his home in Rainier, Washington, at the age of 86. He was born on October 3, 1930, the eldest son of Roy P. and Freda (Sauerwein) Longmire in Olympia, one of the area's pioneer families. Roy was raised in Olympia and graduated from Olympia High School in 1949. In 1950 the Longmire family moved to a ranch in the Bald Hills prior to his enlistment in the
Army where he served in the
Korean War. Roy was a self-employed logger for many years prior to working for Weyerhaeuser Timber Company where he was employed for 27 years as a shovel operator. He retired in 1993. Roy raised Seminole cattle for 20 years and also spent 20 years as a team roper in Thurston County rodeos. He enjoyed watching the Seahawks play football. He was an avid outdoorsman where he enjoyed hunting for deer, elk, and moose. He also liked to fish in the local area lakes and to dig for clams and set out pots for crab and shrimp. Roy was a master builder of birdhouses, squirrel and bird feeders. He enjoyed watching the birds and quail which came into his yard. Roy was married to Louise Koeppen on October 12, 1962. Louise passed away in 2007. Also preceding Roy in death was his daughter, Terry Longmire, in 2009, and his brother James in February 2017. Roy is survived by two brothers and one sister: Daniel (Janelle) Longmire of Rochester and Phil Longmire of Spokane, and Joyce (Phil) Buttin of Olympia. Also surviving are nieces, nephews, step-grandchildren and step -great grandchildren. In accordance with Roy's wishes, a potluck memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 23, 2017, (12 Noon to 4 p.m.) for friends and family at his home on the Vail Cut-off Road.
