Ruben C. Corral passed away in San Diego on October. 1, 2016. He was born on October. 2, 1925, in El Centro to "Don Shon" and "Doa Ricarda" Corral, Imperial Valley pioneers who settled in El Centro in 1911. Ruben attended Washington School, and Douglas Junior High and High School. In 1943 he enlisted in the U.S.
Army 86th Recon at Fort Benning, Ga. He then went into the 82nd Airborne. He served in Europe and was in the D Day invasion at Normandy. He was awarded the Distinguished Unit Badge, American Theater Victory Medal, European-African/Middle-Eastern Occupational Medal, and the German French Liberation Medal. After the war, he went to L.A. City College on the G.I. Bill. He then worked as a Border Patrol officer. In 1951 he married Cari Perez, then went to work for
General Motors in Oakland, Ca., where he worked until he retired in 1982. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers, Salvador, Henry and Arturo, and sister, Wilfrida C. Rivas. He is survived by his wife, Cari; daughters, Velia, Adriana, Sandra, Letitia, and Angelica; and brother, Rodrigo; and cousins, nephews and nieces. Military funeral services were held at Miramar National Cemetery in San Diego.
