Ruben G. Davis, Jr.1955-2016Ruben G. Davis, Jr. was born on August 18, 1955, at Jefferson Davis Hospital, Houston, Texas to Ruben George Davis, Sr., and Lola Mae Bolton Davis. Ruben loved school and he attended Reynolds Elementary, Carter G. Woodson Jr. High School, and San Jacinto High School. At San Jacinto High School, Ruben was in the ROTC and he played golf, and he became an avid golfer. Ruben attended the University of Houston (Downtown) where on December 15, 1993; Ruben received a Bachelor of Science Degree. Ruben attended the Law Enforcement Management Institute (LEMIT) of Texas at both, Sam Houston State and Texas Women's Universities, and on January 21, 1994, he received a certificate of completion. On January 6, 1995, the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards & Education awarded Ruben with his Master Peace Officer Certificate. Ruben attended Prairie View A&M University where on December 13, 1997; Ruben received a Masters of Arts in Counseling. Ruben also attended and completed the Federal Bureau Investigation's (FBI) Regional Command College, and the Lee P. Brown Criminal Justice Institute at Wiley College Marshall, Texas Ruben spent most of his adult life in the law enforcement field. Simply put, Ruben loved being a
police officer and working in policing. He attended and completed the Houston Police Academy. On May 28, 1993, under the totledge of then Chief of Police Lee P. Brown, Ruben was promoted to Sergeant with the Houston Police Department While attending the HPD Academy, Ruben met and married the apple of his eye, the sugar in his coffee, his soul-mate Sharon (Doll) Sherman Davis. To that union, the Lord blessed him with his "girls," Traneka Michelle and Robin Danielle. Ruben loved his "girls," and he took them everywhere they could envision going. On May 10, 1996, after retiring from the Houston Police Department as a Sergeant with 21 years of service, Ruben became Constable of Fort Bend County's Precinct 2. Ruben was a tireless contributor who has faithfully served the citizens of Fort Bend County Precinct Two since. He has spent his entire professional career working to empower people and communities; improving the safety, security and improving the quality of life for those in the community he serves. As Constable, his duties include serving civil documents, lawsuits for debts, divorce cases, repossessions, and collection of judgments, foreclosures, criminal warrants, subpoenas, juvenile summons and a wide variety of other duties. Recognizing the need to mentor our youth and pay homage to our senior citizens, Constable Davis has dedicated his administration to mentoring our young people by providing internships and job opportunities exposing them to various work environments to enhance their skills. He also devotes personal time appreciating our ancestors who have paved the way for him and countless others. He was also a faithful member of The Fountain of Praise Baptist Church where he served as the Director of Church Security until 2016. He took his family to church, and he was faithful to his Lord until he was called into eternal rest on Tuesday, October 18, 2016. Ruben loved his family, friends and his constituents. Ruben was an avid golfer. He loved to fish and he enjoyed bowling. Ruben loved being a democrat and he loved Fort Bend County, Texas. He believed in everything the Democratic Party stood for. He had a never wavering belief that the Democratic Party was "the" party for the people, and that belief resonated throughout every aspect of his life. Ruben enjoyed fundraising for the Democratic Party. Ruben's professional motto was "From this Community – For this Community. Ruben loved hosting his Annual Golf Tournament, Senior Citizens Luncheon, Holiday Zydeco parties, which featured world renowned Artist Step Rideau and the Zydeco Outlaws. Ruben leaves to mourn his passing his wife Sharon (Doll) Davis, daughter Robin Davis, god-son Ralph Viverette, Jr., father Ruben G. Davis, Sr., sisters Pamela Davis-Baity (Charlie), Paula Davis, and brother Renwick "Ren" Davis. Aunts: Alzena Phillips, Adlay Williams, and Hattie Porter. Uncle: Robert Pratt. Mother-in-Law Annie Bell Jones; Sister-in-Laws: Carolyn Butler, Linda Sherman, Lola Rhodes, Sheila Elijah; Brother-in-law Morris "Scooter" Sherman (Edna), Kevin Sherman. He also leaves to mourn his passing a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, advisors, volunteers and friends. Bonus friends: Vivian Singleton, Jackie Potter, Mark Davis, Celestine Palmer, Iris Johnson, Ingrid Palmer, David and Melda Mitchell, Julias and Kat Raven, Ernestine Brown, Robert Wells, Rubie Wells, Ella Wells, Godfrey Jackson, Clarence and Lorraine Douglas, May Walker, Roosevelt "Teddy Bear" and Marlene Petry, Akalya Pomare, Kenneth and Corrine Jamison, Ronald and Jonita Reynolds; Walter and Bridget Inman, Sam Smith; Mary and Alvin Mitchell, Alfreda and Wilton Broussard. Ruben was predeceased by his daughter Traneka Michelle Davis and his mother Lola Mae Bolton Davis. Visitation will be held on (Friday) October 28, 2016 from 12 noon-5 p.m. at the Blueridge Baptist Church, 9621 Chesterfield, Houston, Texas 77051. The Life and Legacy Celebration will be held on (Saturday) October 29, 2016 at the Fountain of Praise, 13950 Hillcroft Ave., Houston, Texas 77085 with a Viewing from 8:00 a.m. – 9:55 a.m. Service will start at 10:00 a.m., Dr. Remus E. Wright, Senior Pastor/ Officiating, Pastor William Timothy Glynn of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Ft. Worth, TX, Eulogist . The Interment will follow in Houston Memorial Gardens.
