Ruben G. Mendoza , 95, passed away peacefully on May 11th, 2016 at his home surrounded by family in Yuma, Arizona. He was born on February 24th, 1921 in Mesa, Arizona. He married Olivia Ruiz on June 25th 1950 and shared an amazing 65 years with her.Ruben was a veteran of World War II and served in Europe with 9th Armored Division. He was Foreman at the Commissary Store at the Marine Base that he retired from in 1985. He also worked for the Bureau of Reclamation, Fairchild, Wellton, Mohawk. Ruben was a member of St. Francis Church served as Eucharist Minister, St. Vincent De Paul, Adorer at St. Clair's. Pastoral care at YRMC while with St. Francis Church. A member of the Eagles, past President. Also a member of the American Legion. Attended 1 year of college at Arizona State before being drafted.Ruben enjoyed playing softball with his team Veteranos in his younger days in Mesa, he also loved to watch Arizona Diamondback games, occasional visits to the casino to play slots, traveling (all over Europe and China with his wife Olivia) and he loved dancing.Ruben is survived by his wife Olivia R. Mendoza of Yuma, sons, Ruben R. Mendoza of Yuma, Chris (Debbie) R. Mendoza of Florence, Arizona, Nash Pwol (adopted son) of Peoria, Arizona, daughters, Cecilia (Tony) M. Brown of Yuma, Susanne M. Yi of Yuma, brother Bennie (Betty) Mendoza of Mesa, Arizona as well as 9 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.Preceded in death by his father, Ramon S. Mendoza, mother, Dolores Mendoza, brothers, Carlos G. Mendoza, Albert G. Mendoza, Ramon G. Mendoza, sisters, Helen Cota, Dolores Fimbres, Olivia Whitcomb and Sally Orriantia.Viewing will be May 19th, 2016 from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm at Yuma Mortuary with Deacon Paul Muthart presiding for Rosary at 7:00 pm. Mass will be held at St. Francis Church on May 20th, 2016 at 10:00 am with Father Emilio Chapa Pastor at St. Francis Church officiating, burial will be at Desert Lawn. Following burial a reception will be held at the Eagles.Pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Chris Yi, Dakotta Yi, Scott Mendoza, Eric Mendoza, Tanya Ponce, Christopher Mendoza II.In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Crossroads Mission, Hospice Compasses and Yuma Food Bank.
