Ruby Lee Bowman Presley was 91 when she passed away June 30 at SEM Haven in Milford, Ohio. She had been in failing health for several years. She was born on Sept. 18, 1924, in Jacksboro to Russell Bowman and Chesta Bartley, but raised by her uncle and aunt, Meather and Ola Wood, all who preceded her in death. She married Preston D. Presley on Nov. 24, 1945. He died in 2004. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Durward Bowman; Clark Bowman and one grandson, Matthew Alan Presley. She is survived by two sons, David Presley of Fostoria, Ohio and Gary Presley of Milford, Ohio; cousins, Dr. Burgin Wood and Jane Westbrook both of Jacksboro and Wilma Jonston of Atlanta, Ga.; grandchildren, Amanda Presley; Steven Presley; Nicole Presley; Caitlin Presley and William Presley and great-grandchildren, Aiden Munson Presley and Matthew Dallas Presley and many nieces and nephews.Ruby served in the U.S. Navy in the 1950's and was stationed with Pres in Corpus Christi, Texas. She was an active member of Shawnee United Methodist Church in Lima, as well as Jacksboro United Methodist and LaFollette United Methodist churches in Tennessee, singing in the choirs and helping in, if not running, the kitchens.Ruby used her gift of organization to chair many community and church committees and events over the years, with Robert's Rules of Order by her side. She was president of the auxiliaries of both Lima Memorial Hospital and LaFollette Medical Center, and spent many years volunteering at Food Life Services in LaFollette.Another of Ruby's gifts was hospitality, which she used generously at church wedding receptions, organizations' banquets and parties through the years, as well as when a son's friend had nowhere to go for Christmas. She had a set of dishes for every occasion.Despite organizing and serving countless funeral dinners, Ruby disliked funerals. There will be no services. Instead, take a friend to lunch, gather loved ones around you for dinner, volunteer for or donate to a community organization that needs your help, or sing a little louder in the kitchen or at church. She'd like that. This obituary is courtesy of Cross-Smith Funeral Home of LaFollette.
