Russel Dees was born January 20, 1943 in North Yuma Gila Valley to John and Allily Dees. Russ was raised on the "Island" where he still resided until Retirement. He was the eldest son of sixteen children. His parents introduced Russ to Jesus Christ at an early age and his beloved Uncle Reverend Elja Roberson baptized him. After graduating from high school Russ attended Arizona State University.
Russ Dees is a third generation agriculturalist with an established reputation for integrity and quality as a livestock breeder, consultant, and judge. He maintained 500 head of Brangus on his ranch in Yuma, Arizona.
Russ is survived by his daughter, Dwella Galicia, Anaheim, California. He was married to Phyllis Staton and out of that union they were blessed with four children, Cynthia McNeil, son-in-law, Jerry McNeil, Charlotte, NC, Alexander Dees, ., Phoenix, AZ, Elvenee Dees, Daughter-in-law Nina, Volga, SD; Keith Dees, Phoenix, AZ, and a host of grandchildren, uncles, aunts, nephews, and nieces as well as other family and friends.
Russ was preceded in death by brothers Vearl, Aldover, Melvin Dees; Sisters Delores Martin, Loreatha Williams, Iva Pittman, Geraldine Works, Glenda L. Russell, Velma Dees, Olivia L. Redmond, and Claudia Arbuckle.
Surviving Relatives; Sister Mell R. Hall; Brothers Elmo Dees, Sister-in-law Joann, Oliver Dees, Sister-in-law Linda, and Felix Dees, Sister-in-law Connie (fiancé Willie Mae Crosby (Skeet); Son Craig Crosby; Daughter Tammy Crosby).
Visitation will be held Friday, August 16, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at First Christian Church, 3261 S. Avenue 6E, Yuma, Arizona. Funeral Service to follow at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Sylvester Graves will officiate.
Graveside Services will be held at Desert Lawn Memorial Park on Monday, August 19, 2024 at 10:00 A.M.
Russel Dees passed away from natural causes, leaving behind a legacy of laughter, love, and maybe just a hint of chaos. Rest in peace, cowboy. The rodeo won't be the same without you.
