RUSSELL L. AURAND, 89 WINSLOW - Russell L. Aurand, 89, of Winslow passed away on Monday, December 9, 2013, at Monroe Clinic Hospital. He was born on May 27, 1924, in Kent, IL; the son of Leslie and Laura (Wise) Aurand. He served our country in the United States Air Force from 1944-1946. Russell married Lucille M. Leitzen on June 30, 1948, in Stockton, IL, she preceded him in death on December 15, 1996. Russell farmed in the Lena area from 1953-1968, worked for Stover Steel in Freeport, IL and operated the Lake-Le-Aqua-Na concessions stand until he retired. He was a member of the American Legion in McConnell, IL. Russell enjoyed fishing, playing cards, pool and doing yard work. He is survived by three daughters, Janice (Kurt) Miller of Lexington, KY, Jeanne (John) Nielsen of Delavan, WI, Sharon Tillis of Tilden, NB, two sons; Norman Aurand of Orangeville, IL and Lamont (Diane) Aurand of Lena, IL; seven grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Darlene Aurand of Lena, IL; brother-in-law, William Leitzen of Gratiot, WI; many nieces and nephews; special friends, Marlen Stamm and Gary Harter. He is preceded by his parents; wife; son, Steven; and sons- in-law, Daniel J. Tillis Sr. and Robert Ferguson II; brothers and sisters, Alvin, Glen, Helen Markwardt, Verna, Lee and Wayne Aurand; and his Springer Spaniel, "Buddy". Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, December 14, 2013, at the Leamon Funeral Home, Lena, IL. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of service on Saturday, December 14, 2013, at Leamon Funeral Home, Lena, IL. Officiating will be Father Michael Morrissey. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery in Stockton, IL. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for the McConnell American Legion. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.leamonfh.com.
