Russell C. Brewer 1921 - 2016MIDDLEVILLE - Russell C. Brewer, 95, passed away Monday, December 5, 2016, at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center, Utica.Russ was born on July 8, 1921, in Columbia Center, the son of the late Charles and Mae Patton Brewer. He attended local schools and left school to serve in the U.S. Army during WW II, and on January 21, 1947, he was united in marriage with Virginia Sherman. She passed away in February 1989.Russ was owner-operator of the Newport Hardware, retiring in 1987. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, the Newport Masonic Lodge, Mohawk American Legion and a former member of Rotary. He was also one of the founders of the Honey Hill Golf Club. In 2010, he was presented his Ilion High School diploma, that he never received due to WW II.Russell is survived by his daughters, Elizabeth (Betty) and her husband, Dwight (Dusty) Dodge, and Patricia Brewer, with whom he resided; five grandchildren, Kate and Melinda Dodge, both of Binghamton, Molly and Christopher Starchok, of Endicott, Lauryn Davis and her fiance, Andy Moore, and Leah Davis and her fiance, Rob Imobersteg; also two great-grandchildren, Noah and Mia Starchok. He is also survived by his special companion, Jane McEvoy, and several nieces and nephews. Russ was predeceased by his brothers, John and Robert, and sisters, Jean, Pearl, Ruth, Dorothy, Eleanor and Shirley.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, December 10, 2016, from the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home, Inc., 100 Otsego St. (Rt. 51), Ilion, with Pastor Dwayne Durand officiating. Final interment will take place in the Middleville Cemetery in the spring.
