Russell Leon "Lee" Douglas, Jr. was born on June 20, 1941, in Bardstown, to the late Russell Leon Douglas, Sr. and Katheryn P. Lewis. He graduated from Bardstown Training School in 1959 and enlisted in the United States Marine Corp in January of 1961. He was honorably discharged with the rank of #-5 (Sergeant) in November 1966. He departed this life on Aug. 8, 2013.On Jan. 14, 1967, he married Annis and they welcomed their son, Russell Jerome Douglas in 1977. He was a member of the Abraham Lincoln Post No. 167. He retired from the New Jersey American Water Company in 2003. He enjoyed tinkering at his workbench, restoring his beloved Dodge Dart, family reunions ("Buttermilk Days") in Bardstown, going to the local NJ drag strip and was a devoted University of Louisville fan.Lee attended Chapel of the Annunciation Episcopal Church in Lawnside, NJ and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bardstown, KY since childhood.He was preceded in death by his father, Russell L. Douglas, Sr.; his mother Kathryn P. Lewis, and his stepfather, James W. Lewis, Sr.Survivors include his wife of 46-1/2 years, Annis Douglas; a son, Russell, and daughter-in-law, Carol of Mount Laurel, N.J.; his siblings, George (Jennifer) Hill, of Las Vegas, James (Judy) Lewis, of Bardstown, KY, Ronald (Anna) Lewis, of Bowling Green, Gerald (Barbara) Lewis, of Louisville, Myra (James) Mayes, of Bardstown, Adrian Lewis, of Bardstown, and Audrey Lewis, of Bardstown; his aunt, Jessie Pash, of Rocky Mount, N.C.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, at First Baptist Church of Bardstown with burial in Bardstown Cemetery. The Rev. Jewel Brock will officiate. Visitation will be 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, at the church. Expressions of sympathy can take the form of contributions to First Baptist Church. Barlow Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
