Ruth Ada Fletcher, 89, previously of Crownsville, passed away in Annapolis on October 31. Ruth was born on March 28, 1927 in Hagan, VA. Ruth graduated from Thomas Walker High School in Ewing, VA in 1944 and then from the Crownsville State Hospital, School of Nursing in September 1958. In April of 1944 she was married to her husband Lee Fletcher. She worked for the Crownsville State Hospital from 1954-1983 as an LPN and Nursing Education Instructor. While employed as a full-time nurse at Crownsville State Hospital, she also worked in private practice as a nurse for Dr. Adeleke Adeyemo until he closed his practice to return to Nigeria. Ruth was a member of South Shore Baptist Church for over 50 years, and taught Sunday School there for over 20 years. She was a director for Mary Kay cosmetics from 1972-2005. Ruth enjoyed gardening, cooking and spending time with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed to read her bible. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Lee Fletcher who passed in 1996 and her son Billy Joe Fletcher who passed March 1, 2016. Surviving are her daughter Donna Simpson and her husband Bob of Annapolis; sisters Luella Miller of Gambrills, Jean Akers of Crownsville, and Barbara Halstead of Bremerton, WA; two grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She will be loved and missed by all. Visitation will be held on Wednesday November 9 from 5-8pm at the Hardesty Funeral Home, P.A., 851 Annapolis Rd., Gambrills, MD 21054 where funeral services will be held on Thursday at 12noon. Interment to follow at Crownsville Veterans Cemetery. Following the burial there will be a time of fellowship at South Shore Baptist Church in Crownsville.
