Ruth Anna (Rudy) Sultzbach MaulHILLIARD: Ruth Anna (Rudy) Sultzbach Maul passed away peacefully at Carriage Court Assisted Living in Hilliard on Saturday, March 25, 2017 after a short illness. Rudy was born on September 18, 1921 in Huntsville, OH, the daughter of Rev. Charles Wesley and Mamie Davis Sultzbach. Due to her father being a Methodist minister and moving to different churches around Ohio, Rudy lived in Tremont City, South Charleston, Prospect, Carey, Sylvania, and ending up in Sciotoville where she graduated high school. Rudy attended Ohio University from 1939-1941 before leaving due to the death of both parents. While at OU, she met her future husband, Dwight E. Maul. She worked at Wright Patterson Air Force Base during World War II while Dwight was a pilot for the Army Air Corp. They married on June 10, 1945. Dwight made a career of the U.S. Air Force, and Rudy loved moving to new locations, meeting new people and joining various organizations. They lived in Ft. Bragg, N.C., England, Greenville, S.C., Fayetteville, N.C., Newfoundland, Smyrna, TN, Falls Church, VA, Paris, France, and Topeka, KS from where they retired. They returned to Chillicothe, OH, where Dwight grew up, for their retirement years and Rudy, being a people person, became very involved in lots of activities. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Eastern Star, Garden Club, and the Century Club. She loved playing all kinds of card games, especially Bridge and Shoot the Moon, camping, needlework, gardening and being with her family. In 2003, after the death of her husband, Rudy decided to move to Hilliard to be closer to her family. She loved condo living and made dear friends quickly, playing Hand and Foot Canasta almost every night. In 2014, Rudy moved into Carriage Court Assisted Living where she made close friends and enjoyed playing cards and Bingo. Besides being preceded in death by her parents and husband, Rudy was preceded in death by her brothers: Paul, Charles, Robert and Richard Sultzbach, her sister Mary Emma Sultzbach Riegel, and her sister-in-law Louise Maul Homans. Rudy is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law Craig (Margy) Maul of Hilliard and Dean (Sinetta) Maul of Mansfield, grandchildren Chris (Dara) Maul and Erin (Chad) Lybarger of Hilliard, Kimberly (Michael) Green of Brooklyn, NY, Jocelyn Maul of Bloomington, IN and Colleen Maul of Chicago, IL, and her six greatgrandchildren whom she dearly adored: Ty, Wes, Jake and Claire Maul, and Reid and Cole Lybarger, all of Hilliard, seven nieces and nephews, and one first cousin Mary Frances Smith of Bradenton, FL. She also leaves behind many dear family members and friends. Family will receive friends Thursday 5-8pm at the TIDD FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 5265 Norwich St., Hilliard, OH 43026, where funeral service will be held 10 am Friday with Rev. David Ziegel officiating. Graveside service 1 pm at Grandview Cemetery, 300 Brookside Rd., Chillicothe, OH 45601 with the Rev. Kurt King officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Trinity United Methodist Church, 24 S. Mulberry St., Chillicothe, OH 45601 or to Ohio Health Hospice, 800 McConnell Drive, Columbus, OH 43214.
