Ruth Anne SmithZANESVILLE: Ruth Anne Smith, 78, of Zanesville, passed away Sun. May 7, 2017 at Cedar Hill Care Center. She was born on Nov. 26, 1938 in Zanesville, a daughter of the late Lawrence and Goldie (White) Lanning. She was a member of Pleasant Grove U.M. Church where she formerly taught Sunday School, participated in the choir, and served on the board of trustees in various assignments. She retired as Secretary Emeritus in 2008 from the Muskingum County Community Foundation where she had enjoyed helping with the annual Groundhog Day Anniversary Celebration for 13 years.She is survived by her husband Roger Lee Smith, whom she married in1955. Her children Dr. Scott B. (Denise) Smith of Berea, Ohio, Julie Kaye (Mark) Stoneburner of Hickory, North Carolina, and Amy Jo Smith of Zanesville. One sister Donna Dennis of Macedonia, Ohio. One brother Thomas (Mary) Lanning of Zanesville. Grandchildren Justin (Amanda) Smith of Jamestown, New York, Michael (Megan) Smith of Columbus, Ohio, Shannon Smith of Columbus,Ohio, McClain Stoneburner of Spartanburg,South Carolina, Micah Stoneburner and Maria Stoneburner of Hickory, North Carolina. Step-grandchildren Brittany, Nicholas, and Joshua Treadway. One great-granddaughter Joanna Smith. Many nieces and nephews and a life long friend Jackie Jones.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son Brady Ryan Smith, her infant son David Roger Smith, her foster parents Jack and Anna Caughey, father and mother-in-law Ralph and Opal Smith, sisters Clara Lanning and June Devoll, brothers Les "Butch" Lanning, Lawrence "Ludy" Lanning, Jr., and David Lanning. Friends may call from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Wed. May 10, 2017 at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church where funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thur. May 11, 2017.Pastors Allan Teter and Linda Morrow officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery. William Thompson & Son Funeral Home in White Cottage is assisting the family.
