YORK Ruth Barrett Bowser, 91, formerly of Largo, Fla., passed away on April 1, 2014, at her residence. Following cremation, there will be a private interment at Mount Rose Cemetery. The Koller Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Inc., in York, is entrusted with the arrangements. Ruth was born on May 26, 1922, in Madison, N.J. and was one of seven children born to the late Herbert Leroy Barrett and Lida Cornelia Collyer. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Lt. Cmdr. Robert S. Bowser, who passed away in 2003; three brothers, Frank, William and Herbert Barrett; and two sisters, Betty Gilbert and Helen Payne. She is survived by a sister, Jean Apgar of Port Charlotte, Fla.; two daughters, Deborah Anderson and her husband, Walter, and Barbara Quance and her husband, Dustin; two sons, David Bowser and Daniel Bowser; nine grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren. In the past, Ruth was an Eastern Star member, worked for York Tape and Label Company, Purolator Armored Car Company and was one of the founding members of the Black Forest Fire Company of Slate Run. She enjoyed crocheting afghans for family members and was a huge NASCAR Jeff Gordon fan.
