Ruth Elaine Guild Rought, 67, of Cary, N.C., passed away on Dec. 13, 2016. By her own admission, she lived a wonderful life. She was born on Nov. 30, 1949, in Yerington, Nev., to the late William H. and Carole E. Guild. She grew up on a ranch, high in the desert mountains by Pyramid Lake, outside of Reno, Nev., where she learned to love wide open spaces with cattle and wild horses. From the west, she moved east with her mother, a TV personality, and her father, a rancher, settling on a 300-acre farm in the Poconos. She went to a Catholic school in Scranton, before attending Mountain View High School in Kingsley, Pa.She met the love of her life, the late Barry Joe Rought, at the Blue Bird diner in Factoryville, Pa. They married on Nov. 16, 1968. Nicholson, Pa., is where they lived and raised their three children. Barry's work relocated the family to Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1989. Ruth returned to the family farm a few years after his passing, where she stayed until moving to Cary, N.C., in the summer of 2015. While in Pennsylvania, she was an active member of Eastern Star and attended the First Universalist Church in New Milford. She loved horseback riding, gardening, baking, writing, singing karaoke and scrabble.Ruth was predeceased by her husband of 22 years, Barry J. Rought; her sister, Nita Bean; and her parents.She is survived by her three children, Christopher Rought and his wife, Merideth, of Mason, Ohio; Julie Steingraber and her husband, Bill, of Cincinnati, Ohio; Renée Deaton and her husband, Sean, of Apex, N.C.; eight grandchildren, Anthony, Matthew and Gary Rought, Austin and Amber Shafer, Tylor, Corey and Jared Deaton; one sister, Diane Guild; and a brother, William Guild Jr. and his wife, Katie. A celebration of life memorial service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 17, at 11 a.m. at Jordan Oaks Retirement Community, 10820 Penny Road, Cary, N.C.Condolences may be sent through
