Ruth EngelbertWest Des MoinesRuth Elaine Engelbert, 81, recently of West Des Moines, IA formally of Edina, MN died July 25, 2017.Ruth was born on Nov. 5, 1935 to Samuel & Mary (Rynders) Dorhout in Sioux Center, Iowa. She graduated from Sioux Center High School and Northwestern College in MN earning an AA degree in business.She married Donald Engelbert of Minneapolis, MN on Oct. 3, 1959. They lived in Edina, MN and enjoyed traveling. Ruth also enjoyed volunteering at Normandale Lutheran Church, Thursday Musical, the Y Men's Club and the Minnesota Herb Society. She also loved to garden, read, play cards and do stitch work. Ruth worked for Jean Lang Dress Company and then worked for many years at Dayton's (Marshall Field's).Survivors include her son Brent (Christie) Engelbert of West Des Moines, IA; two grandchildren: Grant and Greta; eight siblings, Evelyn Hendersen, Larry, Arnold, Marlin, Wendell, Don, Ken, and Galen Dorhout. She was preceded in death by her parents: Sam & Mary Dorhout; Husband: Don Engelbert; brothers: Harv, Warren, and George Dorhout.Ruth has donated her body to the University of Minnesota. No Memorial service will be held. Memorials may be sent to the YMCA of the Greater Twin Cities or the Normandale Lutheran Church Foundation.
