Jun 12, 1921 - Jun 23, 2017

This obituary is administered by:
Ruth Mae (Currier) DyeRuth Mae (Currier) Dye passed away peacefully at home with family by her side on June 22, 2017, at the age of 96 years.  Ruth was born on June 11, 1921 in Breckenridge, Texas, to Claud and Emma Currier. Her family moved to Oklahoma in 1931 where she went to school and worked on the family farm. When WWII began, she travelled by train to San Diego, California and served in the WAVES until the end of the war.  In 1946, she married and started her family, later moving to the San Francisco Bay Area. She spent most of her life as a stay-at-home mother and accomplished artist in Santa Clara, California. She worked as a buyer at FMC for 10 years before retiring in 1984 and moving to Montague, California.  She lived the last years of her life in Reno/Sparks Nevada, surrounded by her grandchildren and family friends. She resided in Golden Years Castle, where Lucy, Ed and the staff gave her special care as if she were family.  Ruth was a sociable woman with a funny sense of humor. She had a silly side and threw out zingers that caught people by surprise. She was a kind-hearted, loving soul. She made friends everywhere she went. Everybody loved her.   Ruth was an amazing artist her whole life. She painted landscapes, portraits, animals, florals and anything else that struck her fancy. She used different types of media, even paraffin and sand. She was a member of the American Society of Portrait Artists and the Siskiyou Artists Association for many years and earned an armful of prize ribbons for her paintings and colored pencil sketches.  She leaves behind her son Daniel and wife Mei, daughter Pamela and husband David Grossnickle, and son Edward and wife Kelley; her grandchildren Heather, Mathew, Garrett, Leah, Shauna, Eric, Mason, Brianna and Nolan; and 10 great grandchildren with the 11th on the way. She is survived by her sister Ernestine and several generations of nieces and nephews in Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her daughter Susan, sister Jewel, brother Ernest and husband Roy. There will be a private gathering as she is laid to rest at Evergreen Cemetery in Yreka, California.
