Ruth Mary Fogarty AtLee, 91, of Towanda, Pa., went home to be with the Lord, Sunday morning, Oct. 23, 2016 from the Skilled Nursing Unit of Guthrie Towanda Memorial Hospital. Ruth was born on March 21, 1925 in New Orleans, La., the daughter of Thomas Daniel Patrick Fogarty Sr. and Anna Ruth Langwyth Fogarty. She attended St. Mary's Dominican Academy in New Orleans and later served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. While serving with the Marine Corps at Camp LeJune, Ruth met her future husband, Frank G. AtLee, and the couple were later married at Camp LeJune on Nov. 6, 1945. During the late 1960s and early 1970s, Ruth was employed in the gift shop of St. Bernard de Clairvaux Episcopal Church in North Miami Beach, Fla., where her husband, Father Frank G. AtLee, served as Rector. The Rev. and Mrs. AtLee later moved to Towanda, Pa., where the Rev. AtLee served as Rector of Christ Episcopal Church until his retirement. Ruth was a devoted member of Christ Episcopal Church, Towanda. Throughout her life, Ruth was an avid reader. Some of her favorite authors were: Henri Nouwen, Thomas Merton and C. S. Lewis. Ruth was passionate in her studies and possessed an extensive knowledge of church history. Ruth was deeply devoted to her family and was a gifted cook.Surviving are her daughters, Marilyn Gardenhire of Vineland, N.J., and the Rev. Canon Maureen AtLee Hipple of Wysox, Pa.; grandchildren, Barbara Anne Gardenhire Mills (Joseph Leroy Mills), Cheryle Lynn Gardenhire, Joseph Randolph Gardenhire Jr., Tracy Elnora Gardenhire, Megan AtLee Smith (Wesley Erik Smith) and Daniel AtLee Hipple; great-grandchildren, Ryan Joseph Ellis, Colin Joseph Mills, Killian Jax Buddy Smith; and many nieces and nephews, including a special nephew, Bruce AtLee.In addition to her parents, Ruth was predeceased by her husband, the Rev. Frank G. AtLee Jr. on Sept. 1, 1987; her son, Frank G. AtLee III on Jan. 26, 2002; grandson, William Gardenhire on Aug. 26, 1972; brother, Thomas Daniel Patrick "Buddy" Fogarty Jr. on Oct. 8, 2007; and son-in-law, Joseph Randolph Gardenhire Sr. on Dec. 15, 1975.A Requiem Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, 2016 at Christ Episcopal Church, 1 Main St., Towanda, Pa., with the Venerable Richard Cluett as celebrant and preacher. Towanda American Legion Post No. 42 will accord military honors at the church. Interment for immediate family will follow in the Christ Church Columbarium.
