YORK Ruth S. (Caslow) Markel, 108, formerly of Seven Valleys, died Friday, March 27, 2015, at Manor Care South. She was the wife of the late Paul A. Markel. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 31, 2015, at the Geiple Funeral Home, Inc., 53 Main St., Glen Rock, with her pastor, the Rev. Mark Billow, officiating. Burial will follow in Giesey Memorial Cemetery, Shrewsbury. Viewings will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Geiple Funeral Home, Inc. Mrs. Markel was born on August 24, 1906, in Codorus Township, a daughter of the late Jacob and Mary (Spangler) Caslow. She had been a seamstress for many years with the Seven Valleys Garment Company and was a member of St. Paul (Zeigler's) Lutheran Church, Seven Valleys. She leaves three daughters, Darthy M. White of Roanoke, Va., Nancy L. Miller and husband, Ronald of Red Lion, and Patricia A. Howard and husband, Richard of Washington Crossing, Pa.; a son, Glenn M. Markel and wife, Jane of Felton; 18 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ada Russell of York. She was preceded in death by her daughters, Betty J. Smith, Anna L. Myers, and Evadell R. Crone; her sons, Stuart F. Markel, Jacob E. Markel, and Leroy M. Markel; six grandchildren; and her close friend, Earl Fair.
