Ruth S. Schvaneveldt Obituary

Mar 08, 1918 - Oct 28, 2016

This obituary is administered by:
WESTON, Idaho – Ruth Schwartz Schvaneveldt, 92, passed away peacefully of natural causes on Friday, Aug. 20, 2010, in Preston, Idaho. She was born on March 8, 1918, in Daniels, Idaho, to Ernest and Emma Bingelli Schwartz. Ruth was born in the pioneer log home with the assistance of a neighbor midwife. Her older brother Albert was sent for the midwife when mother Emma sensed the rhythm of labor pain was sufficient to dictate that delivery was on its way. The family home at this time was in Daniels, a small farming and ranch community about 20 miles west of Malad. The family later moved to Malad, and this is where she lived until her marriage to Delbert Schvaneveldt of Weston in the Logan LDS Temple on Sept. 12, 1934. They spent their honeymoon night on the second floor of the Eccles Hotel in Logan. Their view was to the north, and they could look out on majestic West Center Street and also see the Logan Tabernacle and temple to the east. She lived in Cedarville and Weston all her married life. Her husband died in 1986, and in those 52 years of marriage she gave birth to two daughters and three sons, worked on all equipment used in running the farm, milked cows, had her own egg business, canned the riches of the harvest each season, and enjoyed the majestic life of open spaces, cool evening breezes and the goodness of the earth. As a young bride, she rode by horseback to teach primary in the old Cedarville pioneer chapel. She served her church in many other capacities during her life, including Primary and Relief Society president in the Weston Ward. She was also a cook in the hot lunch program for the Weston Grade School for many years. Her life, like that of many other people on this earth of her generation, could be described as activities devoted to food and family, kids and cows, canning and cuddling, work and worry, and washing and ironing. She was just 28 when her father died, 58 when her mother died, and has been a widow for 24 years. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her brothers Albert, Fred, John and Rex, sisters Rose and Ella, one granddaughter Hollie, and one great-granddaughter Rebekah. She is survived by her children Lorraine (Alvin) Maughan, of Salt Lake City; Dr. Jay (Karren) Schvaneveldt, of Weston, Idaho; Lois (Dr. Richard) Hobbs, of Preston, Idaho; Glade (Brenda) Schvaneveldt, of Weston, Idaho; and Gary (Dana) Schvaneveldt of Mesa, Ariz.; 21 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by four sisters-in-law.Funeral services will be held Monday, Aug. 23, 2010, at noon in the Weston 2nd Ward Chapel with Bishop Darrin Thornley conducting. A viewing will be held Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Webb Funeral Home, 1005 S. 800 East in Preston, and Monday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the church in Weston. Interment will be in the Weston Cemetery. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at www.webbmortuary.com.The family would like to thank all those who served and touched her life throughout the many years and for the goodness and love of so many people. Special thanks is given to those who assisted with her life in the Heritage Home in Preston, and to those in the Franklin County Medical Center and to Dr. Russell Hirst Jr. of Lewiston, Utah; and Dr. David Beckstead of Preston. May goodness and mercy always abide in the hearts of all friends and with her many family members.
