Ruth Shirley RamsayNaples, FLRuth Shirley Holdsworth Ramsay, the center of our family, died gently in her beloved New England on March 5, 2017, reuniting with her husband of almost 70 years, William H. Ramsay who left us in June of 2015. Shirley was the daughter of Albert E. Holdsworth and Edith Lovering Holdsworth and sister of Elmer E. Holdsworth and Robert L. Holdsworth who all predeceased her. She held warm memories of growing up on Middlesex Street in Lowell, MA where she was born on February 11, 1922 overlooking the Merrimack River. She died gracefully and secure in the presence of her family. Shirley was a lady of refinement and discernment who delighted in decorating twelve homes during the course of her marriage. Each represented her love of family, her innate good taste and appreciation for the antiques she inherited from her parents and incorporated into her design. She equally enjoyed gardening, fine needlework, socializing with friends, and preparing the carefully considered meals she provided daily, but especially on holidays. Her Christmas and Thanksgiving celebrations were memorable events for four generations of her family. Currently a resident of Naples, Florida, she reminisced happily about enjoying the beaches, four seasons, and traditiions of Massachusetts, notably the 32 years in Wellesley Hills.Shirley leaves her daughter, Carol Ramsay of Edgartown, MA; her daughter, Priscilla Ramsay ( Clint Berge) of Natick, MA; and their children, Kate and Ross; and her son, Douglas Ramsay (Connie Hall) of Naples, FL. The traits that she bequeathed to us, we will practice and cherish in each other.A private service and interment will take place in Wellesley in the spring.
