RyanRobert Francis Ryan, 94 of Highland Heights, Kentucky passed away peacefully on August 24, 2017 at his residence. Robert was born on February 24, 1923. A World War II veteran he proudly served in the United States Navy on the USS Tarazed as Second Class Petty Officer during the invasion of Normandy and North Africa. He was co-founder of Beacon Printing Co., Newport Kentucky in 1971 from which he retired in 1988. He was commissioned a Kentucky Colonel by Governor Martha Lane Collins on February 8th, 1986. He served as president of the Campbell County Lions Club in 1971 and received the Lions Club Accomplishment Award. He served as president of the Campbell County Social Seniors in 1998 and received an appreciation award from that group. He served as president of Alexandria AARP #3472 in 1998. A life member of Elks Lodge #273, Newport, Kentucky, he received the Elks Distinguished Citizenship award in 2009, and was named Elk of the Year in 2012. Robert was named most outstanding and most deserving member of Elks Lodge #273 on March 21, 2012. He was selected to participate in the Tri-State Honor Flight to Washington DC in April 2014. He was preceded in death by Ruth Ryan (nee. Meyer), his wife of 58 years and sisters Rose Purcell and Elizabeth Henninger. He is survived by his 12 children, Linda (Thomas) Parr, Susan (the late Thomas) Potter, Thomas (Melissa) Ryan, Michael, Timothy, Diana (Damian) Scozzari, Mary (the late Richard) Johnson, Nancy (Russell) Gardella, Rob, Annette (Patrick) Maxey, Carol (Bill) Angel and Lisa (Jim) White, as well as 31 Grandchildren, 46 Great Grandchildren and 4 Great Great Grandchildren, all of whom made him very proud. Visitation Monday, August 28th 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm, 2017 at Dobbling, Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, 427 S. Ft. Thomas Ave., Ft. Thomas, KY 41075. Mass of Christian burial Tuesday, August 29th at 10:00 am at St. Joseph Church followed by an Honor Guard service at the gravesite at St. Joseph cemetery.
