Sabato "Sal" LotartaroAGE: 81 • ManchesterSabato "Sal" Lotartaro 81, of Renaissance, Manchester passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 2, at the Ocean Medical Center, Brick with his loving family by his side. Sal was born on February 5, 1936 in Naples, Italy. He came to the U.S. in 1961, settling in Brooklyn, NY. He lived in Staten Island, NY for 12 years before moving to Manchester in 2002. Although a naturalized citizen, he loved the U.S. and the American flag. At Renaissance, he was the unofficial "flag bearer" for many years. He worked as a longshoreman for 31 years with the Local #1814 ILA first at Pier 1 in Brooklyn, and later from Howland Hook, Staten Island, NY before retiring in 1998. Sal was a "people person" who loved family and friends. He was an ardent NY Yankees fan and soccer enthusiast for his "Napoli" team. He also loved cruising, music, and dancing. He was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus, Council #12940, St John's Church, Lakehurst as well as the 4th Degree Color Guard for the John D. McMahon Assembly #1926. He belonged to the Italian-American Club, Men's Club, Passaic-Morris, Brooklyn, and Bronx Clubs all in Renaissance. He was also an associate member of the Renaissance Shields. He was a parishioner of St John's Church, Lakehurst. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Alice and a sister, Angela Lentini. Surviving is his beloved wife of 28 years, Annette (Costagliola) Lotartaro, his loving daughter Karen Cohen and her husband Michael of Marlboro, many loving nieces and nephews, their children, and their grandchildren. Visitation is Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at Oliverie Funeral Home, 2925 Ridgeway Road, Manchester. Funeral Liturgy is Thursday at 11 am at St John's Church, Lakehurst with entombment to follow at St Mary of the Lake Cemetery, Lakewood. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations in Sal's memory to the Manchester First Aid Squad, 29 Colonial Drive, Manchester, NJ 08759.
