Sally Hensley ProctorRock Hill, SC - Mrs. Sally Hensley Proctor, 98, passed away on Saturday, August 5, 2017 at White Oak Manor in Rock Hill, SC. She was born on July 6, 1919 near Weaverville, NC to Adolphus Wellington Hensley and Barbara Melissa Jane McMahan Hensley, the only daughter, and the youngest child, in a family with eight brothers. She was preceded in death by her father, mother and her eight brothers and her husband, Buck Proctor. She grew up a century ago in the mountains of North Carolina when things were vastly different from today. It was a simple life for people in the mountains; no running water and no electricity. In her youth she experienced the Great Depression and then as a young woman World War II. She married LeRoy Edwin Muse in 1936 and had four children and enjoyed raising them on the farm in Dula Springs just outside of Weaverville. She grew up in the hills and one of her favorite Bible verses was Psalm 121:1 "I will lift up my eyes unto the hills…" and she thought of these cool, blue hills often I am sure when living in the hot midlands of SC. This verse evoked her roots and early years and the love she had for this simple life. She later worked in Asheville and married Richard Angier (Buck) Proctor. Together they owned and operated Proctors Fine Shoes, a high end shoe store on Main Street in Columbia SC and in Asheville NC. She lived in Columbia for many years and split her time between her home in Columbia and her home on Lake Murray. She met Ashby (Doc) and Phyllis Jordan in Columbia and they became lifelong friends. She said she wanted to live to be as old as her father and she did. Her father lived to be ninety eight and her grandfather lived to be one hundred and six. She lived a full life and loved her God and her family very much. She loved the line from the Battle Hymn of the Republic, "In the beauty of the lilies Christ was born across the sea; with a glory in His bosom that transfigures you and me". The beauty of the lilies and the hope of being changed into a spiritual being was very comforting to her. She is survived by her four children, Carl Muse and his wife Martha, Dan Muse and his wife Claudia, William Muse and his wife Carmen, Sandy Haywood and her husband Henry, and five grandchildren; Melissa Etheridge, Jonathan Thomas, Cameron Thomas, Amanda Johnson and Danny Haywood. She had five great-grandchildren; Camryn Johnson, Alex Johnson, Macey Lane Fogle, Grayson Wilburn and Meredith Wilburn. She also had an "adopted in love" grandchild, Ramsey Elsayed. She was adored by all of her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and by her many friends. Services will be private.
