WOLCOTTVILLE — Samuel Jay "Sam" Barkman, age 61, of Wolcottville, Indiana, passed away at home on Wednesday July 1, 2015, at 3:05 a.m. following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on April 7, 1954, in Topeka, Indiana, the son of Monroe and Lena (Wagler) Barkman. On August 11, 2001, he married Rose Farmwald; she survives. Also surviving are his children, Brittany Rochelle Barkman and Blake Alan Barkman, both of Wolcottville, Indiana; his father, Monroe Barkman of Topeka, Indiana; two brothers, William Barkman of Topeka, Indiana, and Monroe (Rachel) Barkman Jr. of Ligonier, Indiana; five sisters, Mary Jane (Wilbur) Miller of Middlebury, Indiana, Waneta (John) Miller, Ann (Toby) Troyer, Carolyn (Dave) Nissley, and Norma Jean (Fritz) Bontrager, all of Topeka, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his mother; two brothers, John Allen Barkman and Ray Ellis Barkman; and two sisters, Alma Mae Barkman and Martha Schmucker. Sam was a member of Eden Worship Center in Honeyville, Indiana. He worked 27 years at Redman in Topeka, Indiana, and then spent the last two years working for Cruiser RV in Howe, Indiana. When he wasn't at work, he was farming at home. Sam enjoyed being outdoors, and especially loved fishing and hunting with his son Blake. They were inseparable. A funeral service will be held in Sam's honor on Tuesday July 7, 2015, at 10 a.m. at Eden Worship Center, 4095 S. C.R. 900W, Topeka, Indiana. Pastor Matt Gingerich will officiate. Burial will follow at Eden Cemetery in Topeka, Indiana. Family and friends will be received at Eden Worship Center from 3-8 p.m. on Sunday, July 5, 2015, and also from 3-8 p.m. on Monday July 6, 2015. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to his children, Brittany and Blake Barkman. Yeager Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
