JACKSONVILLE - Samuel H. Johnson, 94, of Jacksonville, passed away on 17 Sept. 2013, at Onslow Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at Tar Landing Baptist with Pastor Jack Marshburn officiating on Friday, 20 Sept. 2013. A viewing will be held from 1 until 2 p.m. with funeral services to be held at 2 p.m. Burial will follow the service at Onslow Memorial Park.
He was born on Feb. 10, 1919, in Wright County Mo. Parents Clara Louise and Harry Franklin Johnson preceded him in death. He lived on a farm with his parents attending school in Wright County Mo. Moving to San Diego, Calif., in Nov. 1940, he worked at Consolidated Air Craft as a flight engineer and then transferring to Texas in 1943. He later enlisted in the U.S. Maritime Service and was stationed on a ship at sea carrying supplies to war zones. He returned after the war to Wright County Mo., and went back to farming until 1966, at which time he operated a hardware supply store. In 1967, he moved to Springdale, Ark., where he operated a real-estate firm with his wife. He retired in 1990, and moved to Jacksonville in 2002. In 1941, he married Evelyn G. Dodson also of Missouri, and they are the parents of Jan Worthington and husband Fred of Jacksonville and James H. Johnson of South Charleston, Ohio. A grandson, Samuel J. Johnson and wife Joy, and their two daughters; four stepgrandchildren and five great-stepgrandchildren. He was also preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.
