Samuel W. BarberSamuel W. Barber 69, of Springfield, passed away on Saturday, September 9, 2017. He was born on May 30, 1948 to Herston and Opal (Brumley) Barber in Springfield, MO.Sam graduated from Central High School in 1966 and went on to join the Air Force in 1967 and served until 1970 as an Aircraft Maintenance Technician. In 1969 he married Becky Boone and had two children, Michael and Sherry, and in 1981 Sam married Katherine Robertson. He began his police career at Lynn Haven Police Dept. in Florida and continued in 1972 at the Springfield Police Department where he later retired in 1996.Sam's hobbies were country music and playing the guitar in a band, he loved his model trains, Missouri baseball teams, and fishing at Pomme de Terre lake where he had a cabin. He was baptized at a young age at Brookline Baptist Church where he accepted Christ as his savior. He is preceded in death by his parents; older brother, Jim; and sister, Wanda Strauss; brother in law, Don Strauss. Survivors include his wife, Katherine Barber of Springfield, MO; Son, Michael Barber (Tracy) of Branson, MO; daughter, Sherry Cole; step daughter, Angie Williams; step son, Kevin Williams; nine grand children; three sisters, Kay Jefferis, Nancy Donaldson, and Linda Terry; and numerous nephews and nieces.Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 14, 2017 at 2:00pm at Klingner-Cope Family Funeral Home at Rivermonte (4500 S. Lone Pine Springfield, MO 65804)Visitation will be held one hour prior at 1:00pm. Following services a burial will take place at Maple Park Cemetery.In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Sam's memory to the Southwest Humane Society (3161 W.
