Sandra Dee Janssen, 76, of Waverly, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2016, at her home in Waverly. Sandi was born on May 14, 1940, in Hampton, the daughter of Emma (Stubbe) and Clinton Marsh. Following graduation from Greene High School, Sandi continued her education and attended Upper Iowa University, Wartburg College, and the University of Wisconsin. On April 13, 1968, Sandi was united in marriage to William Jay Janssen at the First Methodist Church in Greene. The couple made their home in Waverly. Sandi enjoyed her career as an elementary school teacher. She taught in New Hampton, La Porte City, and finally at West Cedar Elementary in Waverly. She retired on May 21st, 2000. Sandi was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Waverly, and served on the Trinity Scholarship Fund Committee. Sandi was a very social person. She enjoyed coffee at Hy-Vee with friends, inviting friends over, and playing cards, especially 500. She was an avid Iowa Hawkeye and Green Bay Packers fan. She really enjoyed attending productions put on by Hawkeye Community College Artist Series. She was a very loving and giving person that provided care to others over the years. She was also active with Waverly Pet Rescue, and fostered many dogs. Most important to Sandi was her family, she really loved spending time with them, especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed attending their sporting and musical events. Overall, Sandi was a great role model to all who knew her. She was a very loving, caring, and giving person.Sandi is survived by two sons, Jon T. Janssen (fiancée Michelle Even), of Janesville, and Trent C. (Linde) Janssen, of Shell Rock; three granddaughters, Macy, Mattie, and Miranda Janssen; two brothers, Stuart Marsh, of Clarksville, and Alan Marsh, of Illinois; and brother and sister-in-law, Robert "Bob" and Donna Janssen, of Arizona. She was preceded in death by William on June 30, 2001; her parents; sister-in-law, Linda Marsh; and brother and sister-in-law, Ike and Mary Ackerman.Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2016, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Waverly, with the Rev. Carolyn Bowers officiating. Burial will follow at Harlington Cemetery in Waverly. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 21, 2016, at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly.
