Sara Lee GaarslandApril 16, 1940 - April 5, 2014Sara Lee Gaarsland, age, 73, of Pocatello, Idaho, passed away peacefully of causes natural to age with her loving family with her on Saturday, April 5, 2014 in Pocatello, Idaho. She was born on April 16, 1940 in Greeneville, Tennessee to William Arvile and Neara (Bowman) Ricker. Sara moved to Shelley, Idaho with her family when she was four years old. She attended school in Shelley. Sara married Carl William Gaarsland on September 17, 1957 in Shelley. Among Sara's hobbies, she enjoyed snowmobiling, fishing, camping and going south in the winter for the last 21 years.Sara was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Edward and his wife Connie; and a brother-in-law, Leon; and a sister-in-law Betty. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Carl; sons, Robert, Hugh (Kim) and Michael Gaarsland; brother, Leland; sisters, Elizabeth, Janice (Monte), Iva Kate (Dean); as well as eight grandchildren, Amber, Jessica, Ben, Korina, Tyler, Cassandra, McKenna and Samie; three great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.As per Sara's wishes, she was cremated under the care and direction of Downard Funeral Home, 241 North Garfield Ave., Pocatello, Idaho. There are no services planned at this time. Sara's family will have a get together at a later date. Friends who wish, may send contributions in Sara's memory to the Kidney or Liver Foundation or to Access Home Health and Hospice. The family would like to express their deep appreciation to Access Home Health and Hospice teams for all the care and compassionate service over the past year.
