Sara Metcalf GardnerSwannanoa - Sara was born on November 11, 1987, to William Gene and Kathy Metcalf. She lived in Asheville until October 19, 2008, when she married Joshua Gardner and moved to their home in Swannanoa. There they had two children, William Atticus Gardner, who passed away March, 2011, and Maggie Elizabeth Gardner, of the home. Sara passed away at her home on Wednesday, September 13, 2017, from complications of Type 1 Diabetes.Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Joshua Gardner; their daughter, Maggie Elizabeth Gardner; parents, William Gene and Kathryn Metcalf; brother, Nicholas Metcalf and wife Jessica; grandparents, George and June Lamb; best friend, Diane Osborne; and a multitude of aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and co-workers. Sara was a loving soul who took care of every person or animal she ever met. She was employed as a long-term care specialist for the last 11 years and was a blessing to more people than we will ever know.Sara was preceded in death by her Memaw, Dorothy Willingham, and her son, William Atticus Gardner. We take solace in knowing she is safe in her Memaw's arms again and finally hugging and kissing her baby boy.A memorial of her life will be held on Sunday, September 17, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at 3401 Sweeten Creek Rd., Arden, NC. The family will receive friends at 3:00 p.m. and the memorial service will start at 4:00 p.m. A private burial service will be held at a later date.Groce Funeral Home on Tunnel Road is assisting the family.
