Seymour Weber (Sy), 92, of Elmhurst, New York, passed peacefully on August 17, 2019. at the VA Hospital in Manhattan. Seymour was born on October 06, 1926 in Brooklyn, NY in the back of candy store. He is survived by his son, David, grandchildren Michael and Matthew, and his sister Shirley Putzer. His sisters Lenore and Anita predeceased him. Seymour was laid to rest at Beth Moses Cemetary next to Elaine, his wife of 34 years.
Sy's parents David and Mary Weber moved to Richmond Hill, Queens where he attended Lafyette High School. As Sy was set to begin studies to become a Pharmacist, his country called upon him to dedend it. Sy proudly served in the Army during WW2. After being honorably discharged from Camp Beale in Sacramento on August 28, 1946, he hitchhiked back to New York where he went on to meet his wiife Elaine at a dance held at the Rego Park Jewish Center. Seymour had a long and successful career as the Controller for ALA Casting Company (1967-1995) in NYC where he started each day in the early morning hours and didn't leave until the last phone call was made. His work ethic was admired by all and only had two sick days in all those years.
After retiring, and the passing of his wife, Sy began to travel the world with Workman's Circle having gone to 6 continents through the years. He became involved with nearly every senior community event in his neighborhood. His zest for life made him a cherished member of his community. He loved to sing, act, and taught mediation to his peers. He was also the Commander of the local Jewish War Veterans Post. Even past 90 years old, Sy would travel daily on mass transportation keeping an active schedule to the end. He was, and will always be sorely missed by his community and his family.
Blessed be Sy's memory
