Johnson, Shelley Ariel 68, of Phoenix, AZ passed away on January 2, 2017. She was surrounded by loved ones at the time of her passing. She was born on August 2, 1948 in Phoenix, AZ to Mr. and Mrs. Lomy C. and Beverly M. Pensinger. After graduating from Phoenix Christian High School in 1966, she attended Phoenix College, and Arizona State University where she was the first in her family to earn a graduate degree. Shelley worked for over 30 years in the Phoenix Union High School District as an English teacher, a guidance counselor and mentor helping students achieve their dreams. She was an avid hiker and skier who loved the outdoors and could often be found enjoying Squaw Peak Mountain, ski slopes, the Grand Canyon, or movie theaters with friends and family. Shelley is remembered as a mother, grandmother, friend, and loved one who was full of life, full of smiles, and full of compassion. Everything Shelley did, she did for others. She was the most thoughtful and selfless person. She spared no efforts in helping her loved ones. The world is a far better place having been touched by her generosity and kindness. Shelley is survived by her life partner Lee, her twin brother Sheldon, her daughter Tia, her son Tim, her daughter in law Tricia, and her grandsons Hunter, Logan and Colin. Services will be held privately.
