Shelley Turk Mulvaney Obituary

Jul 31, 1954 - Jan 30, 2016

This obituary is administered by:
Mulvaney, Shelley TurkOn October 30th, 2016, Shelley Turk Mulvaney, age 62, passed away peacefully at home in Ithaca, NY. Shelley was born on July 31, 1954 in North Adams, MA and was raised in Williamstown, MA. She was the fourth child of the late Arnold and Diane Goldberg. Shelley attended the University of Colorado at Boulder and later moved to Ithaca, NY to begin a family. She has been a resident of Ithaca for almost 35 years. Shelley personified the saying, "It's not the years in your life but the life in your years." As one friend recently noted, Shelley crammed more life into her years than anyone. Her love of the outdoors led her on an adventure-filled life. She was an impressive skier and avid cycler. Shelley was thrilled to become a road guide for Vermont Bicycle Tours and Cycle America, where she biked coast-to-coast across the country at age 59. "You're only as old as you feel," Shelley always said. While living in Ithaca, Shelley worked hard as a real estate agent as well as a ski instructor at Greek Peak. Shelley later pursued her dream of becoming a pastry chef and attended the New England Culinary Institute. She could often be found in her kitchen decorating sugar cookies or packaging her famous chocolate-covered pretzels to be given away to friends and family. Shelley cared deeply about helping others and served on the Board of Directors at Loaves & Fishes as well as volunteering for the Red Cross.Shelley was a wonderful hostess. Many will remember Shelley's spirited holiday parties and more recently her Cape Cod clambake celebrations. She loved to host Thanksgiving and always extended a welcoming invitation to any friends and neighbors who needed a place to go. While her list of accomplishments and travels is long, Shelley was the most happy when spending time with her children, grandchildren, and her beloved dogs. Early morning walks up and down Blackchin with her loyal Labrador, Hudson, were her favorite way to start the day. Shelley's spirit will live on through her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her son Scott Mulvaney, her daughter Allison Mulvaney, and her two grandchildren Simon and Calvin. Shelley is also survived by her three older siblings Donna Orlando, Larry Goldberg, and Alan Goldberg, as well as her nieces, nephews, and many close friends and loved ones. Help Shelley's spirit live on by enjoying the outdoors, staying positive, and living life to the fullest. If you are swimming in Cayuga lake, or walking along the beaches of Cape Cod, take time to look for seaglass, or a perfectly round rock shining in the sun and imagine Shelley smiling down. A celebration of Shelley's life will be held on Saturday, November 5th at The Treman Center, 95 Hines Road, Newfield, NY from 1:00-4:00pm, with a ceremony at 2:00pm. All are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Appendix Cancer Pseudomyxoma Peritonei Research Foundation at acpmp.org or a local charity, such as Loaves & Fishes, in memory of Shelley's life.
